How to Make Your Lipstick Stay

2017 lipstick trends have arrived and we’ve already found our own perfect versions. After weeks (okay, months) of searching, you can be sure we want the color to stay put. So, here are some ways to stop yours from leaving the party early.

Step 1: Exfoliate for Smoothness

Exfoliation is the first step to keeping your lipstick on all day, because exfoliated lips create a smooth base for the pigment to rest on. A quick and easy way to do this at home is to gently rub lips with a (clean) spoolie or soft-bristled toothbrush dipped in olive oil and sugar. Following this step with a moisturizing balm is a must!

Step 2: Make Moisture a Priority

Well-moisturized lips hold onto to colour better because they are plump and healthy. If you’re not already a balm devotee, then be sure to apply a thin coat at least 10 minutes before you apply your lipstick. It’s just enough time for it to soak in – leaving lips soft, not slick. The Tinted Lip Glow Balm offers hydration to lips while also enhancing its natural hue according to your unique pH level, ensuring a color as individual as a fingerprint.

Step 3: Line it Up!

Using a lip liner (like the Ultimate Stay Lip Liner) to line and fill before applying remains the foolproof way of ensuring lipstick stays in its place.

Step 4: Apply with Precision

“Then apply a lip product that promises long wear, like an Ultimate Stay Lipstick. For maximum effectiveness, do as the pros and use a mid-sized makeup brush for precise application.

Step 5: The Set-Up

The most glamorous step is of course the blotting! Gently press your lips with one-ply tissue paper and then tap on loose powder to ensure ultimate staying power (the Prime and Fine Mattifying Waterproof Powder works a treat here). Finally, perform the finger test: wrap your lips around the index finger and slowly pull out your finger. Any excess lipstick destined for your teeth won’t stand a chance with that trick.

So, remember: exfoliate, moisturize, line, apply, set and then forget about it (well, until you walk past a mirror and see how great you look).
